Anyone having issues with SMF and this Module? Everytime I load the forum it loads a blank screen. IE, Fire Fox, Chrome, and Safari are all showing this on 3 different PCs. Trying to trouble shoot my hosting server as well but all of my other sites that use PHP and MySQL are loading fine. |

Seems the trend is that there are a lot of people who have issues, and then on the flip side of the coin, other people have no issues at all. Is this a new install or an existing install? Not sure what other information you can share. I assume the forum page loaded before you installed TEA and that it was only after the install that it stopped working?
Fresh install. I host the server myself. She's a virtual server and shares space with other sites. None of which have any PHP or MySQL load issues as they're all Wordpress sites. I'll blow away this install shortly and see if it was an issue with SMF before the module was added and report back. The virtual server has 8GB of RAM with 4 processing cores. Per linux commands I'm only using 3GB of RAM right now. I've been trying to find the command to increase memory allocation to MySQL but my Google skills seem to be off these days. |

More than enough RAM. We use recommend 2gb ram vps to run smf, ts3, jabber, evew, and SEAT. Just smf with TEA shouldn't use all that much
Its a shared server so I have 12 sites on its all at once. What is the price to get the suite but I host it myself? |

Ok. Someone try my site. http://de-14.bigracktech.com I've reinstalled SMF and TEA with the same issue locally. If you can get to the main page, try to register and see if that goes through. So far every browser and PC I've used hated both SMF and SMF with TEA. I've tried searching the SMF forums for a fix as well but my google skills still aren't up to par.

Did SMF work prior to installing TEA? So you install TEA and load the forums and the page loaded? I assume yes since TEA is a plugin/add-on to SMF but figured I would ask. Do you have root access on your server? Edit: after I wrote this I clicked the link a couple more times. It popped up 2x out of like 10-12 attempts. See screenshot: ScreencaptureEdit#2: I would google: "smf blank page sometimes" and go through what you find and see if any of those might help. Since this is an intermittent problem, must be something with your server or server & install combination. good luck. Let us know what you find.
Ok so I've shut Compressed Output off - no change, I've set the database connection to persistent - no change.
Could this be a CentOS thing? I see you run Ubuntu. I doubt it cares what Linux distro I'm using.
I'm going to build a VPS with nothing on it and install from scratch tomorrow night and see what happens then. Pretty strange that this is an issue that dates clear back to 2004 with SMF. Anyone else have any ideas to try out? Would love to have this software running for my corp and alliance. |

I would be surprised if it is a CentOS thing. You never answered the question whether the forums (SMF) worked prior to installing TEA. That would be pretty helpful. That would tell us if it is an SMF issue or TEA issue. I'm thinking SMF. The symptoms go back to 2004. Doesn't mean your specific issues does. Narrow your search by using SMF 2.0...see what comes up. You should try some different searches to see what else you can come up with. I didn't really look very close, just that there was some stuff out there you could try.
Sorry I haven't replied. Looks like SMF went to version 2.0.11 - I've done a complete reinstall of SMF. By itself I get the blank screen errors. trying to find the PHP Error reporting on my control panel to see what information it provides. At this time I have not installed TEA. |

I've been working with my Control Panel support all weekend and we can't figure it to be an issue on our side.
What are the requirements for TEA? What PHP and MySQL versions are needed? I also cannot get anywhere with SMF Support. Anyway this module could be ported to MyBB or something that works better? |

Updating my Control Panel OS to CentOS 7.1 x64 to see if the newer versions of PHP and stuff help any. Will report back in a couple days. |

One of the support techs found this:
Hi! Everyone who appears when you run Simple Machine Forum white page, see this post!
Problem: You tried installing Simple Machines Forum software (SMF) either from the source website or using Sentastico, but it shows as a blank page when you try to access it. No issues are seen in the ZpanelX or Sentora Error Log and all other configurations appear to be correct.
Solution : This issue is caused by suhosin security module which blocks the PHP function shell_exec() from being used. However, SMF appears to call this function in the Sources/Subs.php file, around line 3538 (line 3737 on version 2.0.11):
// Try the Linux host command, perhaps?
if (!isset($host) && (strpos(strtolower(PHP_OS), GÇÿwinGÇÖ) === false || strpos(strtolower(PHP_OS), GÇÿdarwinGÇÖ) !== false) && mt_rand(0, 1) == 1) { if (!isset($modSettings[GÇÿhost_to_disGÇÖ])) $test = @shell_exec(GÇÿhost -W 1 GÇÿ . @escapeshellarg($ip)); else $test = @shell_exec(GÇÿhost GÇÿ . @escapeshellarg($ip)); // Did host say it didnGÇÖt find anything? if (strpos($test, GÇÿnot foundGÇÖ) !== false) $host = GÇ¥; // Invalid server option? elseif ((strpos($test, GÇÿinvalid optionGÇÖ) || strpos($test, GÇÿInvalid query name 1GǦ)) && !isset($modSettings[GÇÿhost_to_disGÇÖ])) updateSettings(array(GÇÿhost_to_disGÇÖ => 1)); // Maybe it found something, after all? elseif (preg_match(GÇÿ~\s([^\s]+?)\.\s~GÇÖ, $test, $match) == 1) $host = $match[1]; }
This code block should be commented out by adding PHP comment tags :
// Try the Linux host command, perhaps?
/* if (!isset($host) && (strpos(strtolower(PHP_OS), GÇÿwinGÇÖ) === false || strpos(strtolower(PHP_OS), GÇÿdarwinGÇÖ) !== false) && mt_rand(0, 1) == 1) { if (!isset($modSettings[GÇÿhost_to_disGÇÖ])) $test = @shell_exec(GÇÿhost -W 1 GÇÿ . @escapeshellarg($ip)); else $test = @shell_exec(GÇÿhost GÇÿ . @escapeshellarg($ip)); // Did host say it didnGÇÖt find anything? if (strpos($test, GÇÿnot foundGÇÖ) !== false) $host = GÇ¥; // Invalid server option? elseif ((strpos($test, GÇÿinvalid optionGÇÖ) || strpos($test, GÇÿInvalid query name 1GǦ)) && !isset($modSettings[GÇÿhost_to_disGÇÖ])) updateSettings(array(GÇÿhost_to_disGÇÖ => 1)); // Maybe it found something, after all? elseif (preg_match(GÇÿ~\s([^\s]+?)\.\s~GÇÖ, $test, $match) == 1) $host = $match[1]; } */
This will fix the issue and allow SMF to work properly. The function is not necessary for the normal operation of the script, as other means are available to SMF to accomplish the same thing.
